MEET A TIGER
"Diving in with Rebecca" BY. ANNA LIPPY The Tucker High School swimming team had a winning season this year. The team knows how to have fun while getting the job done. Some of the swimmers will be competing in the county meet Saturday, January 20th. These 9-11th-grade students all have something to add to the team, whether they are beginners or returning swimmers. They had some strong seniors on the team that contributed to their success, one of which is Rebekah Kimbrell. Rebecca is also a talented guitar player, passionate about science, and an avid French student. I have known Rebecca for a few years now and it has been so inspiring to see her grow! |

"America and Abortion: Not All Women Are the Same"
Abortion has always been a controversial topic and most people don’t voice their opinions on the matter for that very reason. Abortion, by definition, is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy”.
On the 19th of January 2018, there was a march for life rally in DC. This rally is the 45th annual rally and nearly 50,000 were supposed to attend the event. Our very own president, Donald Trump, made an appearance at the rally to speak to thousands of people. He had quite a lot to say during his speech, “because of you, tens of thousands of Americans have been born and have reached their full God-given potential,” he also continued with “love saves lives.” Donald emphasized the importance of choosing life in his speech and even spoke for his entire administration when he said, “under my administration, we will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence and that is the right to life.”
Even when talking about this subject Trump found a manner in which to include how well he’s running the country; he mentioned how the economy is probably at the best it’s ever been and how the issue of unemployment for African Americans and Hispanics has improved since his time in office. Thankfully he gets back on topic about his beliefs on anti-abortion and claims he hopes that the Senate passes this anti-abortion law to his desk allowing him to sign it. “We are protecting the sanctity of life and the family as the foundation of our society.”

I completely understand both sides to abortion, pro-life and pro-choice, and I think many people think this way, but I do also believe that you can only fully understand what abortion really means when you’re presented to a pregnancy first hand. You cannot fully know what you would do until it happens to you, whether that is you get pregnant as a woman, or as a man conceive a child with a woman.
A young woman may conceive a child in their teens, but not have the support of a caring and loving family; abortion would be the way to go in their perspective. On the second there may be another young woman in the same position that does have this support, it would be much easier for them to choose life for their unborn child. When being pregnant and having to choose whether or not you want to keep the baby I imagine that people don’t quite understand every single aspect of someone’s life. You have to really know someone before you judge them by their choice. Consider the fact that not every woman is in the exact same position, not one woman is in the exact position as another.

Recently, in Kabul, Afghanistan a gunman attacked a hotel and killed eighteen people. Aside from those eighteen-dead people, hundreds were trapped and couldn’t get out. People don’t exactly know how many people were attacked in the hotel, Afghanistan's interior ministry says at least 150 people were rescued, including 41 foreigners. These people were just probably on a vacation and something bad had happened to them. According to Najib Danish, an interior ministry spokesperson, that the assault ended early Sunday afternoon and that all the attackers had been killed. There is an Islamic group in Afghanistan called the Taliban. The Taliban want to claim responsibility for this attack, saying five people took part, while a witness told Reuters he saw four attackers dressed in army uniforms. Before the attack happened, a wedding function was taking place. Many others were there for a conference. There was a lot of fire and smoke from the outside view.

Insha’Allah (God willingly) those who didn’t die were saved with little to no injuries. Hopefully, the gunman was punished for all he did and those that were in onto this plan. These people that got hurt were just innocent people living their lives on a normal day, and then suddenly there is a big attack. Even though there was heavy security, somehow the gunman entered through the kitchen and started shooting. As of right now, no one knows where the fighters came from, but in 2011 Taliban fighters did attack a hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan. At the end, all we need to do is have hope and pray for those who were hurt.

TV TIME WITH AKBAR
AKBAR KHAN "STRANGER THINGS" Long story short, when a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back. The country was not inundated with ads and marketing stunts; instead, viewers heard about the show from friends and sank into its immersive world of nerdy kids, nervous parents and evocative mysteries. It was hard not to fall in love with the Netflix drama’s affection for genre storytelling and with its earnest homages to the gnarliest pop culture of a few decades ago. Until “Stranger Things 2” really gets going — and that takes a while — it trails an air of self-consciousness that veers into strained fan service at times. The good news is, the show’s core cast remains an extremely versatile and effective ensemble, and once the story kicks into a higher gear about halfway through the nine-episode season, a lot of the old magic returns. |
There are missteps in the second season, many of them revolving around thin or unfortunate writing for some of the new characters. But once you get past the clunky first few installments — which largely restate much of what occurred last season and set up plot points that were easily inferred from the trailers — the drama’s momentum picks up noticeably. Much of the new season asks various residents of Hawkins where their true homes are. It’s not a spoiler to say that they find refuge, as most of us do — if we’re lucky — in each other.
